Racism Needs to Go Away
As we as a society come together after the death of George Floyd to recognize systemic racism against Blacks, one of the things we need to recognize is the innovations made by Blacks. Knowing these innovations and acknowledging the African American women that created these inventions will make us realize that being racist against the African American community makes us ungrateful for these inventors and innovators and that race isn't something that we should discriminate some by.
Here 10 inventions that wouldn’t happen without the innovative black women in history
1) 3D Movies By Dr. Valerie Thomas
2) GPS By Dr. Gladys West
3) Conditioner By Madame CJ Walker
Fun fact: she’s the first female self-made millionaire in America
4) The sanitary belt that led to today’s menstrual pads By Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner
5) Home Security System By Marie Van Brittan Brown
6) Caller ID and Call Waiting By Shirley Ann Jackson
7) Central Heating By Alice H. Parker
8) The Ironing Board By Sarah Boone
9) Voice over Internet Protocol, the technology that allows us to talk using the internet on Skype, Zoom, etc. By Dr. Marian Croak
10) Gif Animation By Lisa Gelobter
While the lesson of this is to tell you that without Black women, we wouldn’t have the inventions we have today, what you should take from this is that together, we can do so much more. Racism is inefficient and under the laws of capitalism, racism should go away. Imagine if we continued being racist and discriminated against the Black community, would we still have the ironing board, GIFs, or even 3D movies?
Many companies that continue to discriminate against minorities continue to miss out on the bright minds the dwell in those communities. Imagine how much progress those companies could be doing if they had those bright minds working for them. Some of the best entrepreneurs and workers out there happen to come from minority backgrounds.
Overall, racism is inefficient. With companies prioritizing productivity, I believe that racism will be rooted out of workplaces and that systemic racism could come to an end. I really hope that is the case and that will happen.
If it won't happen, then I hope to grow this podcast and have Dissecting the Markets be an example of a company that was able to prove how inefficient racism is. By leveraging the strengths of every individual and treating every race and every person as an equal, I see Dissecting the Markets becoming something big in financial media.
